देव खंडोबा जेजुरीचा - Dev Khandoba Jejuricha

Khandoba is a regional Hindu deity in Maharashtra, worshipped by all communities including Muslims. It is also dignified as Martanda Bhairava, an incarnation of Shiva, having connection with Vaishnava and Jain traditions. He is the Kuladavat of Maharashtra. He is the most popular patron deity of farming and herding castes, the hunters and gatherers, of the hills and forests of western Deccan.

Khandoba is believed to have characteristics of Shiva, Bhairava, Surya and Kartikeya (Skanda). He is depicted either in the form of a Lingam, or as an image riding a bull or a horse.

Lord Shiva is said to have incarnated on earth as Khandoba to kill the demon Malla and his younger brother Mani, who after gaining the boon of invincibility from Brahma, started creating chaos on earth and harassing the sages.

Khandoba is believed to be residing in a fort called Jejuri in Maharashtra. Jejuri is one of the famous temples of Maharashtra visited by many devotees. This place is popularly known as 'Khandobachi Jejuri'. The temple of Khandoba at Jejuri is located on the top of a small hill.
